Marjorie A. Anderson

October 24, 1916 — January 4, 2013

Wilmington – Mrs. Marjorie A. (Porteus) Anderson, of Wilmington, formerly of Waltham, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at her home. She was 96.

Marjorie was born in Watertown on October 24, 1916, a daughter of the late Charles and Ella (MacKenzie) Porteus. After her mother's death, when Marjorie was just two, her father remarried and she was also raised by her step-mother, Nellie Porteus.

She was a graduate of Watertown High School and worked in factories, took in laundry and worked as a nanny to the Kirshi family of Weston before retiring at age 80. She helped raise all her grandchildren and cared for and loved her beautiful great-grandchildren. Marjorie was a devoted mother to her children Ron and Dale giving unconditional love to Dale during the loss of her daughter, Nicole, to a tragic train accident in 2002. She always stayed strong, showing incredible endurance with the loss of family members and always loved unreservedly.

Marjorie's husband, Roland W. Anderson died on October 1, 1988.

She leaves her children, Roland W. Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Waltham and Dale E. Froton and her husband, Richard, of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Marjorie Lydon and her husband, Greg, Karen Hofferty and her husband, Daniel, all of Franklin, Richard Anderson and his wife, Shauna, of Framingham, Mary Anderson of Waltham and Eric Froton and his wife, Erin Kennedy Clancy of San Diego, California; her great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Matthew Lydon, Brendan, Sean and Kellie Hofferty and Brooke and Bryce Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was also the grandmother of the late Nicole Marie Froton and a sister of the late Helen Dacey, Shirley Standard and Charles Porteus.

Family and friends will honor and remember Marjorie's life by gathering for calling hours on Sunday, January 6th, from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Monday morning when her funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
