Waltham - Mrs. Marjorie E. (McCarthy) Lucas, of Waltham, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 in her home. She was 86. Born in Newton on March 3, 1923, a daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Hurley) McCarthy, Marjorie was raised in Watertown and had lived in Waltham for the past fifty-two years. She was a graduate of Watertown High School, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Newton Women's American Legion Post #410. Marjorie was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Coast Guard. Marjorie leaves her husband, Francis P. Lucas; her children, Robert E. Lucas and his wife, Mary, of Waltham and John E. Lucas and his wife, Louise, of Framingham; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Richard and Thomas McCarthy. Family and friends will honor and remember Marjorie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
