Martha J. (Sinclair) Locke

Salem, NH – Mrs. Martha J. (Sinclair) Locke, of Salem, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Brightview in North Andover. She was 75.

Martha was born in Waltham on February 16, 1940, a daughter of the late Douglas and Elizabeth (McDermott) Sinclair, and had been a lifelong resident before moving to Salem two years ago. Until her retirement Martha was a special education teacher for the Waltham Public Schools and worked mainly at the vocational high school.

She was a 1957 graduate of Waltham High School and later earned her bachelor's degree from Boston University. She and her family spent many happy summer days at Point-of-Pines in Revere and winters in Naples, Florida.

Martha was a lifelong member of Immanuel Methodist Church in Waltham and also belonged to the Junior Women's Club and the Piety Corner Club, both in Waltham.

Her husband of forty-nine years, Robert J. Locke, died July 20, 2011.

Martha leaves her children, Holly B. Phillips and her husband, Lawrence, of Salem, New Hampshire, Robert J. Locke, Jr. of N. Hollywood, California and Douglas S. Locke and his wife, Charlene, of Framingham; her grandchildren, Lauren, LJ, Jessica, Derek, Andrew, Douglas, Jr., Kyle, Isabella, Jemma and Olivia; her great-grandchildren, Frankie, Emma, Ella and Kyra; her sisters, Virginia Platt and her husband, Winfield, of Waltham and Elaine Sinclair Fowler of South Hero, Vermont and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Martha's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, September 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Sunday afternoon in Weston United Methodist Church, 377 North Avenue (Rte. 117), Weston where her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
