Waltham – Mr. Martin Raymond Prendergast, Jr., of Waltham, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 in his home. He was 58. Born in Boston on July 26, 1951, a son of Rita M. (Greene) Prendergast of Waltham and the late Martin R. Prendergast, he had worked as a manager for forty years for Shaw's Supermarket. Martin was raised in Watertown and had lived in Billerica for a number of years before moving to Waltham ten years ago. Martin graduated from Boston College High School in 1969 and from Boston College in 1973. An avid outdoorsman and reader, he was active with the Boy Scouts in Billerica and belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Watertown, Council No. 155. In addition to his mother, he leaves his children, Martin and Eden Prendergast of Billerica and their mother, Peggy (Dirrane) Prendergast; his sisters and brothers, Thomas Prendergast of Belmont, James Prendergast of Braintree, Mary Mahan of Westford, Clare Greene of Waltham and Joan Reardon of Chelmsford and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Martin's life by gathering for callings hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
