Waltham – Mrs. Mary L. (Maher) Auld, of Waltham, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. She was 89.
Mary was born in Brighton on November 28, 1925, a daughter of the late William and Ida (Fewer) Maher and had been a lifelong resident of Waltham. She married Waltham native Joseph R. 'Ray' Auld in June, 1946 after he was discharged from the US Marine Corps at the end of World War II.
Mary worked as a crossing guard while she raised her family and later became a clerk for the probation department at the Waltham District Court for twenty years until her retirement. She will best be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother and very proud 'Nana' to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the PFC John M. Sullivan USMC Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10334 in Waltham and the Association of Retired State and Municipal Employees.
Mary's husband Ray, a retired Waltham police lieutenant, died on January 7, 2000.
She leaves her children, Maureen D. 'Debbie' Auld of Sturbridge; (Ret.) Trooper Raymond J. Auld, MSP of Waltham and Waltham Police Detective James R. Auld and his wife, Debra, of Waltham; her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Neil Melanson, Emily and Rebecca Auld, Laura Ruscio and Elizabeth, Patricia, Julie and Abby Auld; her great-grandchildren, Aidan and Zoe Melanson, Isobel Auld and Giovanna and Camilla Ruscio; her daughter-in-law, Linda Auld, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a sister of the late William Maher, Catherine Landry, Theresa Smith and Robert Maher.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, December 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
