Waltham – Mrs. Mary F. (Parker) Baruch, of Waltham, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Wingate at Brighton. She was 87.
Mary was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on December 10, 1926 and was raised in Kittery, Maine. She was a 1944 graduate of Traip Academy in Kittery and four years later earned her degree in nursing from the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, then a part of Simmons College in Boston.
It was in Boston that she met her future husband, Brooklyn, New York native Aaron L. Baruch. The pair married on November 15, 1959 and two years later moved to Waltham to make their home and to raise their children.
Mary began her nursing career at the New England Deaconess Hospital and for a time worked for Dr. Elliott Joslin, who established Boston's world renowned diabetes research and treatment center. She also did private duty nursing but took a hiatus from a full time position to raise her family. In later years she worked at Metropolitan State Hospital in Waltham.
In addition to her husband of fifty-five years, Aaron, she leaves her children, Lori E. Baruch of Waltham and Kara A. Young of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; her grandson, Alec J. Young; her nieces and nephew, Deborah Ruple, Theresa Langner, Thomas Parker and Jean Clayton and many grand nieces and nephews.
Mary was also the daughter of the late Charles and Bettie (Putnam) Parker and sister of the late Jim Parker.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, December 1st from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, December 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. in The J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME. Mary's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd at 10 a.m. in Saint Mark's United Methodist Church, 60 Government Street, Kittery, ME. Burial will follow in First Parish Cemetery, York, ME.
