Mary Martha Bigham

Ms. Mary Martha Bigham, of Concord, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 17, 2023. She was 95.

Born on August 15, 1927 at the Teresian Hospital on Main Street which stood at the property of the Saint Jude’s Parish she was a daughter of the late Edward T. and Hazel (Brennan) Bigham. Raised in Waltham she was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School and later earned her nursing degree from Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester.

For many years she worked as a school nurse in the Waltham Public School System before working full-time for her family’s business, Bigham and Sons, Inc. for many years

Mary Martha was a woman of strong faith and a devout Catholic, prayed the rosary daily and had a devotion to the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. She was a daily communicant at St. Camillus Church in Arlington, Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church and Saint Mary’s Church, both in Waltham.

She had a knack, keen interest and wonderful knowledge of all things antique. Mary Martha was a vendor at various flea markets and an antique dealer. She would annually attend the Brimfield Flea Market.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Bradford William ‘Brad’ Bigham, Edward T. Bigham Jr. (late Marie), Harvey Bigham (late Esther) and Hazel C. Sears.

Mary Martha is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary Martha’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20) Waltham, on Thursday, June 22nd from 4 to 6 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard’s Cemetery, Concord.
