Waltham – Mrs. Mary J. (Papia) Bonney, of Waltham, died in her home on Friday, February 14, 2014. She was 80.
Mary was born in Waltham on September 3, 1933, a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Vincenza (Vella) Papia. She was a lifelong Waltham resident and graduated from Waltham High School with the class of 1951.
Until her retirement she had worked as a receptionist at the New England Journal of Medicine in Waltham. She was an active volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, taking anyone in need to and from their appointments. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Waltham.
She was the wife of the late George F. Bonney and is survived by her sons, William A. Bonney and his wife, Carole, of Slidell, Louisiana, Vincent G. Bonney and his wife, Alison, of Chicago, Illinois, and Matthew J. Bonney of Oxford; her sister Josephine Floyd of Danvers; her grandchildren, Kevin, Jessica, Jack, Rachel and Luke Bonney and Melissa Monti; her great grandchildren, Leah, Katlyn and Nicholas Monti and Talan Bonney; her special friend, James Cincotta of Waltham and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Carmela Gannon and Theresa Cericola.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, February 19th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
