Waltham – Mrs. Mary Josephine (Dillon) Burke, of Waltham, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in her home. She was 95.
Josephine was born in Waltham on March 14, 1917, a daughter of the late John J. and Mary Ann (McGillvary) Dillon and had been a lifelong resident. She was a 1934 graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham and had worked as a systems coordinator for Compo Industries until her retirement. Josephine was also proud of fulfilling her duties as a Notary Public.
She took great care of her home and enjoyed tending to the gardens and landscape surrounding it. Josephine was an accomplished baker and was looked to to provide the cakes and goodies at family birthdays and weddings. Many years ago she also took part in USO events singing and dancing for the troops.
Josephine was the wife of the late Francis P. Burke and a sister of the late John Joseph Dillon, Jr.
She leaves her sister, Teresa Hice Burdick and her husband, Joseph, of Brazil, Indiana; her nieces and nephews, Edythe Colantonio and her husband, Donald, of Framingham, Lisa Dillon Arsenault and her husband, Greg, of Milford, John Dillon of Natick, Adria Dillon of Hyannisport, Michele Dillon and her husband, Lee Hoffstein, of Framingham, Deidre Mehlman and her husband, Bruce, of Lempster New Hampshire, Cornelia Dillon and her longtime companion, Andrew Hill, of Framingham, Thomas Dillon and his wife, Roberta, of West Roxbury, Christopher Hice and his wife, Cindy, and John Hice, all of Oregon and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Josephine's life by gathering at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 12th, in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
