Waltham – Mrs. Mary J. (Dorie) Cameron, of Waltham, died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 86.
Mary was born in Westville, Nova Scotia on October 30, 1928, one of eight children born to the late Charles and Jessie (Wilkie) Dorie. During World War II she met her future husband, Antigonish native Archibald B. Cameron, when both were working at the shipyard in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
After their marriage Mary and Archie lived for a number of years in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where they owned and operated the Gael Restaurant. In 1957 they moved with their young family to Watertown and thirty-six years ago the couple moved to Waltham.
Every summer Mary and Archie would return 'home' to Nova Scotia to visit with family and to attend the Highland Games. The pair enjoyed the music, the dancing and the stories that became part of the fabric of their lives. They were also senior members of Indian Ranch in Webster.
Mary's beloved husband Archie died on November 19, 2013.
She leaves her children, Lawrence E. Cameron and his wife, Karen, of Shrewsbury, Catherine A. Lochiatto of Waltham, Wayne B. Cameron and his wife, Cheryl, of Boca Raton, Florida, Gerald A. Cameron and his wife, Maureen and John A. Cameron and his wife, Susan, all of Waltham; her grandchildren, Michele Pappas, Renee Aucoin and Joseph Cameron; her great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kaley and Cameron Pappas and Nicholas Aucoin; her brothers and sister, George Dorie of Westville, NS, Charles Dorie of Pictou, NS and Jeanne Holmes of Quincy and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was also the mother of the late Deborah Cameron and a sister of the late Henry, Edward and Robert Dorie and Annie MacDonald.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, February 4th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
