Newton – Mrs. Mary J. (Dermody) Concagh, of Newton, died on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in Wingate at Chestnut Hill. She was 82.
Mary was born March 2, 1935 in County Carlow, Ireland, one of thirteen children of the late James and Bridget (Mullins) Dermody. Raised and educated in Ireland, she immigrated to the United States, settling in Boston. She married Patrick Concagh in Saint Cecilia's Church in Back Bay in Boston, and they made their home in Newton since 1980.
She worked as a housekeeper at Boston University for former president John Silber for over twenty-four years before retiring in 2006.
Mary kept active and enjoyed the outdoors. She was a regular walker and cyclist. An avid reader, she was known to finish many books on her train rides to and from work.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Judy Murphy, Jane Regan and Johnny Dermody.
In addition to her husband, Patrick, she leaves her siblings, James 'Jimmy' Dermody, Andrew 'Andy' Dermody, Michael Dermody, Patrick 'Paddy' Dermody, Thomas 'Tommy' Dermody, Martin Dermody, Bridget Mahon and Josephine O'Mara all in County Carlow, Ireland and Kathleen Delaney in Dublin, Ireland and many nieces, nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 7th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and again at 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
