West Newton - Mrs. Mary V. (Carty) Doolin of West Newton died Friday, January 7, 2005 in her home. She was 88. Born in Jamaica Plain, Mrs. Doolin had lived in West Newton for many years. She was a graduate of the Girls Latin School in Boston and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree and her Masters Degree from Boston State Teachers College. During World War II, Mrs. Doolin was an executive secretary for the Navy Supply Corps as well as a volunteer for the USO. She was employed as an executive secretary from 1946-1951 for the Colonial Investment Company on State Street in Boston. From 1975 to 1985 Mrs. Doolin was the executive secretary for the Assistant Superintendent of the Newton Public Schools and returned to work in 1986 as a secretary for the Newton Schools Foundation and the Newton School Committee until her retirement in 1996. Mrs. Doolin was a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Bernards Church in West Newton, a secretary for the Newton Retirees Association, a member of the Massachusetts Association of Secretaries as well as a member of the Ann Harvard Society. She was also on the advisory board of the Council of Aging and a member of the Retired Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. Her hobbies included quilt making, swimming, aerobics, and taking care of her roses. Mrs. Doolin loved meeting and being with friends and enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was the wife of the late James V. Doolin, the daughter of the late James P. and Helen G. (Shea) Carty and the sister of the late Claire Cambell, James, Gertrude, John, and Arthur Carty. She is survived by her children, Christopher P. Doolin of Deltona, FL, James P. Doolin of Newton, John M. Doolin and Mary P. OMalley both of Marlborough and Richard T. Doolin of Waltham; 13 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held on Monday, January 10, at 9:30 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Bernards Church, 1529 Washington Street, West Newton. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Newton Retirees Association, P.O.
