Waltham - Mrs. Mary Dorothy ‘Dottie’ (Grundstrom) O’Brien, of Waltham, died in her home on Monday, June 21, 2010. She was 86.
Dottie was born in Rowley on August 22, 1923, a daughter of the late Carl W. and Mary Agnes (Orthman) Grundstrom and had been a Waltham resident for over 56 years.
Dottie worked as a nursing assistant for over 20 years at the former Reservoir Nursing Home in Waltham until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the John M. Sullivan Post #10334 and was a voracious reader.
She was the wife of the late Lawrence J. O’Brien and the sister of the late Carl W. Grundstrom, Bernard Grundstrom, Robert Grundstrom, Shirley Mann and Marguerite McInnis.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen A. White of Waltham and Mountain Hills, Arizona and Daniel J. O’Brien and his wife, Marie, of Northborough; two sisters, Elizabeth McCusty and Barbara Morrell, both of Plymouth; a sister-in-law, Marge Grundstrom of Watertown; five grandchildren, Dawn M. Palma, Derek M. O’Brien, Kerri A. Martinez, Kristen E. White and Kelly A. O’Brien; six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Dottie’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown.
