Mary Georgagi's faith and family provided her with all that she needed throughout her ninety-six years. Her good and long life came to its end when she died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.
Born on January 28, 1923 in Waltham she was a daughter of the late Sicilian immigrants Joseph and Carmela (Cumbo) Salamone. Raised in Waltham she was a graduate of Waltham High School. She married Boston native (West End) Thomas J. 'Russ' Georgagi in Sacred Heart Church in Waltham. They were married 48 years until Russ' death on April 19, 2009. Mary moved to Westwood in 2014.
Mary's family offers gratitude to the staff and friends of the Julia Ruth House in Westwood for the loving and caring environment and relationships that developed over the last five years. She was a member of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish where she happily volunteered in different capacities.
In addition to her husband, 'Russ' she is predeceased by her siblings, Frank, James, Salvatore, Jennie and Manette Salamone and Carmela Testa and sisters-in-law, Anne Sawtelle, Mary Mucci and Virginia Georgaqui
She leaves her children, John J. Georgagi (Jennifer) of Orange County, California and June M. Rubin (Barry) of Westwood; her grandchildren, Nicholas and Ally Georgagi and Nathan Rubin; brother-in-law William Georgaqui and sister-in-law Helen Georgaqui, both of Boston; also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, April 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
