Mary A. (Broderick) Gillespie

Framingham – Mrs. Mary A. (Broderick) Gillespie, of Framingham, formerly of Waltham, died Monday, February 17, 2020 in Waterview Lodge, Ashland. She was 90 years old.

Mary was born in Galway, Ireland on June 15, 1929, a daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Monahan) Broderick. She immigrated to the United States in 1953, settling in Waltham where she lived before moving to Framingham twenty-two years ago.

For years she worked as a talented seamstress and was relied upon by generations of family, friends and customers to fix, make, hem and alter outfits for every occasion. She and her husband Ed also spent many happy weekend evenings dancing. Mary's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Edward Gillespie; her children, Ann M. Filippone (Jay) of Ashland, Kathy C. Pierce (Colin) of Shrewsbury and Jerry Gillespie (Sarah) of Sutton; her grandchildren, Kelli, Katelyn, Anneka and Aileen Gillsepie and Declan and Sloane Pierce; her brother, Bro. Seamus Broderick of Co. Galway and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Mary was also a sister of the late Kathleen Daly, Thomas, John, Martin and Michael Broderick.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, February 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
