Waltham - Mrs. Mary E. (Rivers) Maher, of Waltham, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital, Brighton. She was 72.
Born in Waltham, a daughter of the late Leo A. and Anna M. (Lenza) Rivers, Mary had been a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Waltham High School and had worked for many years as a secretary at the former Hillcrest Nims Function Facility in Waltham.
Devoted to her family and to her faith, Mary was an avid reader who found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She leaves her husband, Ret. Waltham Deputy Fire Chief Robert J. Maher; her children, Ret. Waltham Police Detective Robert J. Maher of Acton, Cynthia L. Martin of Waltham, Susan E. Doherty of Natick and Waltham Police Sergeant Timothy J. Maher and his wife, Kerry, of Waltham; her sisters, Helen Williams and Ann Murphy both of Waltham; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Wednesday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
