Mary E. Mahoney

Waltham – Mrs. Mary E. (Skane) Mahoney, of Waltham, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton. She was 63.

Mary was born on December 26, 1948, a daughter of Doris G. (Dunn) Skane of Lexington and the late Robert P. Skane. She was raised in Waltham where she graduated from Waltham High School in 1966. She later earned a degree from Bay State College in Boston.

On September 26, 1970 she wed Waltham native Robert E. Mahoney. The couple lived in Framingham for a time before returning to Waltham in 1991. Sadly, Bob died on May 27, 1995 and although devastated by the loss of her husband at such a young age, Mary never wavered in her energy, enthusiasm, love and commitment to caring for and providing for her young family. She also worked for the past several years for the Town of Wellesley Recreation Department.

In addition to her mother, Mary leaves her daughters, Karen E. Mahoney and Cheryl A. Mahoney, both of Waltham; her brothers and sister, B. Michael Skane of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Jacquelyn Gately of Dennis and Edward Skane of Mashpee and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, November 20th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
