Waltham - Mrs. Mary E. (Griffin) Malo, of Waltham, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Wingate in Needham. She was 85.
Mary was born in Belmont on February 22, 1925, a daughter of the late Timothy and Delia (Murphy) Griffin. She had worked for many years as a waitress at the Pillar House in Newton and at Finnerty’s Restaurant in Cochituate for twenty-two years before her retirement in 1999. She was a graduate of Belmont High School and in her spare time she enjoyed knitting and making Irish afghans for family members on special occasions.
She leaves her children, Richard R. Malo and his wife, Christine, of Fitchburg and Timothy C. Malo of Middletown, Connecticut; one sister, Margaret ‘Terry’ Sallese of Medfield; her grandchildren, Timothy, Brian, Ricky, Cassandra and Deirdre, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was also a sister of the late John, Francis, and James Griffin.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown.
