Waltham – Miss Mary A. Malone, of Waltham, died Friday, November 12, 2021 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 93.
Mary was born in Liscannor, County Clare, Ireland on May 5, 1928, a daughter of Daniel and Nora (Kinnane) Malone. She immigrated to the United States in 1950 and lived for a time in Somerville, Cambridge and Newton before making Waltham her lifelong home in 1968.
She worked for twenty-five years in the dietary department at Waltham Hospital and after that for another nine years at Charlesgate Manor Nursing Home in Watertown before her retirement at age 70.
Mary loved her Irish heritage and was a proud member of the Reynolds-Hanafin-Cooley Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Ėireann, a nonprofit organization founded in Boston in 1975 for the preservation of Irish traditional music and culture. She was also a longtime member of Saint Mary's Parish.
She was the longtime companion of forty years to the late Thomas F. Greaney.
Mary was the sister of Michael Malone (Mary) of County Clare, an aunt to Donal Malone, Michael Malone, Joseph Malone, Mary Sweeney and Ann Thynne and their families, all in Ireland and was a dear friend to John and Tina Monaco and family of Waltham and Rabbi Charles Levi and family of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, November 16th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
