Mary R. (Lombardo) Mazzeo, of Waltham, died Friday, May 17, 2024 in Saint Patrick’s Manor in Framingham. She was 96.
Mary was born September 22, 1927 in Waltham a daughter of the late Italian immigrants Philip and Rose (Rizzo) Lombardo. A lifelong Waltham resident she was a graduate of Waltham High School with the class of 1946. She married James J. Mazzeo on November 25, 1948 in Sacred Heart Church. Married for over 56 years Jim died on October 27, 2004.
In addition to staying at home to raise her three children she had worked at both Raytheon Corporation and Ark-Wright Mutual Insurance Company.
She was the quintessential matriarch of an Italian family and was most happy when her family was gathered at her much loved home on James Street every Sunday. Mary was a phenomenal cook and baker. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish and in later years was devoted to Mass via Boston Catholic Television.
Mary also loved to crochet afghans for her family and when she retired she volunteered at the Whittemore School in the library and in a kindergarten class.
In addition to her husband, Jim, she is predeceased by her brothers, Charles Lombardo (late Grace), Robert Lombardo (late Ellie) and Philip Lombardo Jr (late Virginia).
She leaves her children, Gloria M. Chane, Joanne M. LeFort (Thomas), all of Waltham and James J. Mazzeo Jr. (Jeanne) of Westford; her grandchildren, Michael Chane (Heather), Jennifer Lefebvre (Andrew), Nicole Bullock (Tyler), Matthew LeFort (Deryn) and Kevin LeFort; her great-grandchildren, Aidan, Brennan, Brady, Kinsley, Luke, Zack and Kennedy; also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Thursday, May 23rd , 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 24th in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham at 11 a.m. Please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
