Mary E. O'Brien

Bourne – Mrs. Mary E. (Winkel) O'Brien, of Bourne, formerly of Waltham, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 in her home. She was 76.

Born in Boston, Mary had lived for most of her life in Waltham before moving to Bourne eleven years ago. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham, Class of 1950. Mary loved spending time with family and friends.

Mary was the wife of the late Henry F. O'Brien and the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret (McCusker) Winkel.

She is survived by her children, Matthew L. O'Brien and his wife, Christine, Sara M. O'Brien, and Hank O'Brien, all of Bourne, Nan Donlon and her husband, Tom, Ro O'Brien, Mary E. O'Brien and her husband, Sean, Tony O'Brien and his wife, Kelli, and John O'Brien and his wife, Lacey, all of Waltham; her sister, Gretchen O'Hara and her husband, Curt, of Waltham, her brother, Leo Winkle and his wife, Midge, of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; seventeen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Route 20), Waltham on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Memorial donations may be made to the Henry F. O'Brien Scholarship Fund, c/o Waltham High School, 617 Lexington Street, Waltham, MA 02452.
