Watertown – Mary O'Hara was able to spend this past Thanksgiving in Florida with her family enjoying the traditions of the day but also the warmth of the sun . . . the sand on the beach and the sounds of the ocean. It was a beautiful day.
She returned home last week to her home in Watertown and died unexpectedly on Monday, November 27, 2017 in Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge after being stricken ill at home. She was 85.
Mary M. Murrin was born February 7, 1932 in Waltham, a daughter of the late William and Margaret (Quirk) Murrin. Raised and educated in Waltham she was a graduate of Waltham High School. She attended Catherine Gibbs School and Bentley College and later earned her Master's degree in Education.
Mary worked for over 38 years as a supervisor for Verizon in Boston before enjoying retirement in 1994.
She stayed active with membership at Boston Sports Club in West Newton, gardening and walking the beach.
She leaves her daughters, Maureen P. O'Hara of Tarrytown, New York and Anne M. O'Hara and her husband, Denis Foran of Waltham; her nieces, nephews and her godson, Andrew Kasper and his wife, Kim of Walpole and their children, Meghan, Andrew and Aaron and her neighbor and close friend, Luis Rodriguez.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, November 29th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
