Mary E. O'Neill

Waltham – Mrs. Mary E. (Laffey) O’Neill of Waltham died Sunday, December 5, 2004 in Maristhill Nursing Home, Waltham. She was 94. Born and raised in Boston, Mrs. O’Neill was a resident of Waltham for the past 62 years. Mrs. O’Neill was an executive secretary to the Dean of the Graduate School of Brandeis University for many years. She was a member and arbitrator for the Massachusetts Better Business Bureau. Mrs. O’Neill was a hospice volunteer for over twenty years and a parishioner of Saint Jude’s Church where she was a former prefect of the Sodality. Mrs. O’Neill was the wife of the late R. Allen O’Neill to whom she was married from 1937 to 1993, the daughter of the late John and Mary Ellen (Doherty) Laffey, and the sister of the late Lousie Woods, Frank, Joseph, Fred, and Betty Laffey. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn L. O’Neill of Waltham and Betsy D. Jones of East Greenbush, NY; her grandchildren, Matthew Jones and his wife, Yunhee, of Korea, Cara Jones of Boston, Harvet Jones and his wife Kori, of California, Bow Jones and Farley Jones both of New York; her great grandchildren, Lance and Jazmine Jones, and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
