Waltham – Mrs. Mary G. (Savoy) Palmer, of Watertown, died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 91.
Mary was born in West Bathhurst, New Brunswick on October 25, 1922, a daughter of the late Sebastian and Leontine (Landry) Savoy. She emigrated to the States when she was two and was raised in Waltham. She lived in Newton for several years before moving to Watertown thirteen years ago.
Until her retirement Mary worked for a number of years at Armory Nursing Home in West Newton and later at Maristhill in Waltham.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her friends at Rosary Drive, visiting Nantasket Beach and Rockport. She'll be remembered by family for her cups of tea and blueberry muffins, watching figure skating on TV and listening to the Red Sox on her ever present radio. Mary occasionally tried her luck by visiting Mohegan Sun and Twin Rivers casinos.
She leaves her children, Donna Merrill and her husband, Ryan, of Franklin and Catherine Parrella and her husband, Richard, of Canton; her son-in-law, James Phillipps of Des Moines, Iowa; her sister, Maria Stanton of Waltham; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Anastasia Diane Phillipps and a sister of the late Albanie Savoy, Joseph Savoy, Estelle Chaisson, Fern Roche, Cecilia Cooper and Betty Snelling.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, October 25th where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
