POSTPONEMENT DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
Waltham – Mrs. Mary E. (Blanchette) Tomasello, of Waltham, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She was 85.
Mary was born in Dorchester on October 4, 1932, a daughter of the late Philip and Elizabeth (McMahon) Blanchette. As a child her family moved to Belmont where she was a graduate of the local high school. After that Mary attended Burdett College in Boston and after raising her children went to work as an executive secretary for RR Donnelley Company in Waltham and later after their move to Bedford. She retired when she was 72.
Following her 1953 marriage in Saint Luke's Church, Belmont to Cambridge native John A. Tomasello the couple moved to Waltham where they became lifelong residents.
John and Mary enjoyed seasonal trips to Ogunquit, Maine where walks along the Marginal Way were always on the itinerary. Mary was a self-taught piano player and was a terrific cook and baker. Her trademark apple pie will long be remembered as a family favorite.
In addition to her husband of sixty four years, John, Sr., she leaves her children, Susan J. Patuto (Carmen) of Acton, John A. Tomasello, Jr. of Pembroke Pines, Florida and Thomas E. Tomasello (Consuelo), of Westford; her grandchildren, Christopher Patuto, Thomas Patuto (Emily Kolpa), Brian Patuto (Amelia Thomas), Mark Patuto (Sarah), Justin Hamilton (Davina Burrell), Amber Hamilton (Pat Fuller), Brianna Tomasello, Lauren Blinsinger, Laura Fandino and Nicolas Fandino; her brothers, Eugene Blanchette (Ann) of South Yarmouth, Bernard Blanchette (Virginia) of Waltham and Ronald Blanchette (Carol) of Burlington; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph 'Dodie' Tomasello (Linda) and Claire McCabe (John), all of Florida; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was also a sister of the late Philip, Paul, Robert and Edmund Blanchette.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on FRIDAY, JANUARY 5TH, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on SATURDAY morning before leaving in procession to Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10a.m. Burial will be private.
