Mrs. Mary V. (Reilly) Veno, of Waltham died Wednesday, December 7, 2022 in Marist Hill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was 99.
Mary was born on January 13, 1923 in Watertown a daughter of the late Irish immigrants Thomas and Mary (Mullahy) Reilly. Raised in Watertown she was a graduate of Saint Patrick's High School. She married Arthur F. Veno on April 23, 1949 in her home parish of Saint Patrick and then the couple made Waltham their home. Arthur died February 2, 2003.
In earlier years Mary worked in the office at Lewando's Cleaners, the Arsenal in Watertown, Raytheon Corporation and lastly in the cafeteria at Central Junior High School. She enjoyed her work in the Waltham school system and was the well liked 'lunch lady in line 3'.
A woman of strong faith she was a member of Saint Mary's Parish where she served as Eucharistic minister to the homebound, serving people within walking distances to her home. The rosary was daily and novena's were part of her lifelong prayer life. She transitioned to Marist Hill Nursing Center several years ago and she quickly became a much loved resident.
In addition to her husband, Arthur, she is predeceased by her siblings, John, Thomas and Joseph Reilly, Theresa Melket, Catherine Grady and Frances Sullivan;
She leaves her devoted son, Arthur F. Veno Jr. of Waltham; her sister of Eleanor Desmond of Newton; also survived by many nieces & nephews; great-nieces & great-nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, December 14th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
