Waltham – Miss Maureen A. Delaney, of Waltham, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 91.
Maureen was born in Waltham on March 12, 1926 a daughter of the late Edward F., Sr. and Frances B. (O'Shea) Delaney, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, then in Boston before its move to Hingham, and from Emmanuel College in Boston.
She later earned her Master's degree in education from Harvard University in Cambridge. Maureen worked for over fifty years as an elementary school teacher in both the Waltham and Newton school departments. She kept in regular touch with many of her former students throughout their lives.
Maureen was an avid reader and a hockey enthusiast . . . and a devout follower of the Boston Bruins.
She leaves her sister, Eileen Debany of Garden City, Long Island, New York; her sister-in-law, Mary (Eaton) Delaney of Peabody; her nieces and nephews, Maureen Delaney and her husband, Shaun McCallum, of Waltham, Charlotte Caswell and her husband, James, of Portland, Oregon, Joseph Delaney and his wife, Jennifer, of Reading and Paul Debany and his wife, Jill, of Garden City, Long Island and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Maureen was also a sister of the late Edward F. Delaney, Jr.
Family and friends will honor and remember Maureen's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, June 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
