Maureen E. (Stankard) Langone

June 21, 1939 — June 11, 2020

Londonderry, NH – Mrs. Maureen E. (Stankard) Langone, of Londonderry, formerly of Waltham and Lexington, died on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Villa Crest Nursing Home in Manchester, New Hampshire. She was 80.

Born in Boston on June 21, 1939, Maureen was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Fitzgerald) Stankard. She was raised in Waltham and was a graduate of Waltham High School. She continued her education at the Shepard-Gill School of Practical Nursing of Massachusetts General Hospital. For years she had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the obstetrics and gynecology department at Waltham Hospital and later in the office of Dr. Joseph 'Ted' Arico.

Maureen had a vibrant personality that could make a stranger feel like a lifelong friend. Her warmth, kindness, and friendly demeanor made friends, family, and patients feel like they were the only ones in the room. She was dubbed a 'social genius' by her aunt and earned a well-deserved 'Doctorate in Personality' from her loving husband, Ralph. The two met at Moseley's on The Charles dance club and quickly knew they were meant for each other. They married in Saint Jude Church in Waltham on October 7, 1967 and have spent the past fifty-two wonderful years together. She and Ralph moved to Lexington in 1970 where they raised their family.

Maureen loved to travel and had a true sense of adventure; she took a journey to Europe in her twenties with friends for a trip of a lifetime. Later she made many happy summer memories with her family at the Red Jacket Inn in South Yarmouth. Another favorite spot was Ogunquit, Maine where she and Ralph would enjoy a stroll on the Marginal Way and dinner at the Lobster Pound.

She loved watching movies and television shows like Johnny Carson, but one of the most important parts of her life was attending daily Mass at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church or at the Espousal Center on Lexington Street. Faith, family and friends were her constant companions.

And despite declining health in the past few years her smiling blue eyes and upbeat personality never wavered. She never complained and remained a source of strength and optimism for those she loved. Her cherished grandchildren always brought out the brightest smiles and they made sure that 'Grammy' was loved right back.

In addition to her parents, she is reunited in Heaven with her sister, Margaret Stankard.

She leaves her beloved husband, Ralph S. Langone; her children, Stephen M. Langone and his wife, Michelle Greeley, of Waltham, Linda M. Cornett of Londonderry, New Hampshire, and John P. Langone of Brockton; her grandchildren, Julia and Joella Langone, Ava, Thomas, Sean Cornett and Angela and Madelyn Langone; her brothers, Charles E. Stankard, Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Lincoln and Kevin Stankard and his wife, Beatrice, of Tyngsboro; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Patricia Langone of Lexington and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Maureen's life by gathering for her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday June 17 in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
