Maureen T. Mathews

November 25, 1966 — December 24, 2024

Braintree

Maureen T. Mathews, of Braintree, died passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington. She was 58.

Born on November 25, 1966, at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, Maureen was the beloved daughter of Maureen (O’Hare) Mathews of Waltham and the late John J. Mathews, retired Newton Firefighter. She grew up in Newton and received her education at Our Lady’s Grammar School, later graduating from Mount Saint Joseph’s High School

After earning her degree from Mass Bay Community College, Maureen began her career as a radiologic technologist at Mount Auburn Hospital. She furthered her education at the University of Phoenix, where she attained certification in computed tomography (CT) and subsequently worked at Mass General Hospital as a CT technologist until her retirement.

If Maureen was anything, she was strong-willed and she exemplified resilience throughout her life. Managing diabetes since childhood and living with epilepsy for the last eighteen years, her health challenges were no match for her determination, and she worked every day to maintain her independence and live a full life. Her family and faith in God gave her the strength she needed. She loved spending time with her family, especially her niece and nephew whom she adored.

She was a passionate Boston sports fan, especially the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins. She quite literally ran on Dunk’s; with her trusty, medium hot, three sweet and low and five creams, to keep her on the go. She was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

In addition to her father, John J. Mathews, Maureen is predeceased by her grandparents, Patrick and Nora Mathews and Andrew and Teresa O’Hare, nephew, John Matthew Stack, and her aunt, Kay Malouf (late Fred).

She is survived by her loving mother, Maureen (O'Hare) Mathews of Waltham; Her sister Patti Stack (Christopher Francazio) of Holbrook; her niece and nephew, Colleen and Michael Stack; her aunts and uncles, Mary Goddard (Ken) of Medway, Jimmy O’Hare of Somerville, godmother Patricia Sheehan (late John) of Medford, Tommy O’Hare of Somerville, Ann Sullivan (Richard) of Watertown and Rita Hardy (John) of Yarmouth; her godfather and dear friend of the family Jimmy O’Malley of Yarmouth, along with many cousins with whom she was very close.

Family and friends will honor and remember Maureen’s life by gathering for Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, December 30th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon.
