Maurice Fraser Whalen

Waltham – Mr. Maurice F. Whalen of Waltham died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 94. Born in Newburyport, a son of the late Maurice J. and Effie E. (Sullivan) Whalen, he lived in Waltham for more than fifty years. He was a graduate of Newburyport High School and Boston College. Until his retirement, Mr. Whalen was the executive director of the Massachusetts chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. He was the husband of the late Kathryn L. (Keefe) Whalen. Mr. Whalen leaves four children, Maurice J. Whalen and his wife Brenda M. of McLean, Virginia, Deborah A. Spendley and her husband Gerard H. of Heber, Arizona, John M. Whalen and his wife Kathleen of Lewiston, Maine and Christopher Whalen of East Bridgewater; one brother, Charles Whalen of Overland Park, Kansas; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was also a brother of the late Effie Garand. Funeral Services will be private.
