Waltham - Mr. Michael M. Catalano, of Waltham, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 in Epoch of Weston. He was 78.
Michael was born in Boston on January 9, 1933 and raised in Roslindale. He graduated from the former Boston Technical High School and earned an associate’s degree from Franklin Technical Institute in Boston. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Yellowstone. He met Diane M. Aker while at church in Roslindale and on May 26, 1962 they married at Sacred Heart Church. They moved to Waltham the same year to raise their family.
He worked for over 46 years as a project machinist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratories in Lexington, retiring in 1996.
A quiet family man he is also remembered for his terrific sense of humor. He and his family summered at their home on Sebago Lake, Maine for many years. He loved to dance and both he and his wife would often attend the Saturday night dances at Moseley’s on the Charles in Dedham. He was a member of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, the Knights of Columbus and the National Non-Commissioned Officers Club at Hanscom.
He was predeceased by his twin brother, Joseph Catalano and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Catalano.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Diane M (Aker) Catalano; his daughters, Bernadette T. Drinkwater and her husband, Richard, of North Billerica, Diane M. Moran and her husband, Christopher, of Woburn and Christina L. Reilly and her husband, Brian, of Millis; his brother, Anthony Catalano of West Roxbury; his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Catalano of Dedham; six grandchildren, Emily and Nicholas Drinkwater, Victoria and Brian Reilly, Gerald and Daniel Moran; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Michael’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, August 3rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery.
