Waltham – Mr. Michael J. Martinos, of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Beth Israel Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was 48 years old. Michael was born in Boston on October 10, 1967, the son of Peter D. and Marilyn R. (Wardick) Martinos.

Michael graduated from Waltham High School in 1985 and continued on to Johnson and Wales University where he studied culinary arts. He was an Executive Chef at Hobbsbrook Management in Waltham for twenty-eight years. Michael enjoyed cooking at all family holidays. He devoted his time to his beloved parents, taking care of the landscaping and gardening and of course, the cooking. He loved to go fishing with his brothers and spend time with his friends. He also enjoyed watching culinary and discovery stations, was an avid reader, loved his music and was a great dancer. Michael had a knack for conversion and was quick to make friends. He was always up for a good laugh and a great time and he lived life to the fullest.

In addition to his parents Peter and Marilyn of Waltham, he is survived by his sister Cheryl Ann and her husband Henry Kerstgens III of Holliston and their children Henry IV, Christopher and Zachary; his brother Peter J. Martinos and his fiancé Patricia Hanson of Lawrence and his children Perrin and Jessa; his brother Phillip J. Martinos and his wife, Julie, of Waltham and their children Edward and Sean; his brother Steven E. Martinos and his wife Heather of Brookline, New Hampshire, and their children Jacob, Trent and Isabella.

He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, a great-niece and nephew, his Aunt Joan Garber, cousin Lisa Flanagan, and Boo Boo his cat. Many friends will also sadly miss him.

Family and friends will honor and remember Michael's life by gathering for calling hours on Sunday, May 15th, from 2 to 5 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham and again on Monday morning in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
