Waltham – Mr. Michele 'Mike' Bertolami, of Waltham, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Wingate of Weston. He was 83.
Mike was born in Novara, Sicily on September 30, 1935, a son of Giovanni and Teresa Bertolami. During his late twenties he left Sicily for Torino Italy, where he pursued training and work as a plumber and met his future wife Fiorentina. Mike moved to the United States in 1960 to seek new opportunities and settled in Waltham where his sister Carmela resided. He went on to become a master plumber and worked for many years at Garden City Oil of Newton, and then Exxon/Mobil (later becoming ASE Technologies).
Mike was a devoted family man and loved being with his children. During the summer months, he enjoyed spending recreational time with his family in the Lakes Regions of New Hampshire. Mike was a loving grandfather to his seven grandchildren and played an active role in their lives.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all the local New England sports teams and also continued to follow his favorite Italian Futball Team, Juventus. Mike also had a great appreciation for music (especially jazz trumpet players) and was an amateur trumpeter himself. Mike was a quiet, kind and gentle man that was loved by many and was well liked by everyone that had the good fortune of meeting him or spending time in his presence.
He leaves his wife, Fiorentina (Gamba) Bertolami; his children, M. John Bertolami (Carol), Michael D. Bertolami, all of Waltham and Carl S. Bertolami (Heather) of Brookline, New Hampshire; his brother and sister, Giuseppe Bertolami (Victoria) of Sicily and Carmela Chilemi of Waltham and his grandchildren, Kimberly, Kurtis, Kayla, Isabella, Leonardo, Dante and Zoe.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mike's life by gathering at his Committal Service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November, 13th in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 250 High Street, Waltham. Entombment will follow.
