Waltham – Miss Muriel R. Cox, of Waltham, died on Monday August 5, 2013 at The Falls at Cordingly Dam in Newton. She was 89.
Muriel was born in Newton on March 6, 1924, a daughter of the late J. Warren and Anna (Mahan) Cox. She was a life-long Waltham resident having spent fifty-four years in Warrendale, and as a parishioner of St. Jude Parish. She graduated from Waltham High with the class of 1941, remained very close with many of her fellow classmates, and served on all the reunion committees. Until the age of eighty-five, she would meet every Monday night with five of her closest high school friends.
Muriel worked as an executive secretary at the Honeywell Corporation until her retirement in 1989. In her younger years she was an avid skier. She loved vacationing on the Cape and in Florida, spending time on the beautiful beaches. In her spare time she enjoyed golfing and gardening.
Muriel was the sister of the late Margery M.Owens, Warren J. Cox, R. Donald Cox, Sr., and Barbara A. Davis and the sister-in-law of the late George A. Owens, Sr.
She is survived by her brother-in-law Robert W. Davis of Estero, Florida, her sisters-in-law, Edwina C. Cox of Woburn, formerly of Waltham, and Irene Cox of Waltham, and 18 nieces and nephews, with whom she shared unique and special relationships.
Family and friends will honor and remember Muriel's life by gathering to visit at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday morning, August 12th, from 9 to 10 a.m., before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
