Mrs. Muriel R. (Thomas) Fisher, of Waltham, died Sunday, April 7, 2024 in her home. She was 93.
Muriel was born in Waltham on May 10, 1930, a daughter of the late Seth and Evelyn (Kelly) Thomas. After her graduation from Waltham High School she went to work at Louis Shepard Company in Watertown before getting a job as the bookkeeper for S.S. Pennock Co., a floral wholesaler, in Waltham.
On September 20, 1959 she married fellow Waltham native and World War II and Korean War Marine veteran Robert Fisher, Jr. in Our Lady’s Church on Trapelo Road. The pair enjoyed more than sixty-four happy years together. Muriel enjoyed keeping her mind busy reading and doing crosswords and puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling and in her younger years liked bowling.
She was always active in the community, volunteering her time for various Waltham organizations including Waltham Hospital and at polling stations during election time. In addition Muriel volunteered for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
She was predeceased by her beloved infant daughter, Robin, and her sisters, Eleanor Formalarie, Thelma Formalarie, and Mildred MacDowell.
She leaves her children, Robert T. Fisher of Belchertown, Brenda A. Mondello (James) of Magnolia, Nancy F. Barrett of Dorchester, and Debra J. Bezjian Waltham; her grandchildren, Seth and Allie Barrett, Alexa Bezjian, and Marissa Mondello; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Muriel’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, April 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. when her funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
