Waltham – Mrs. Muriel E. (Cowie) Nurse, of Waltham, died on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in the Miriam Boyd Parlan Residence in Wayland. She was 95.
Muriel was born in Waltham on October 27, 1917, a daughter of the late John and Rose (Baldaro) Cowie. She was a life-long Waltham resident and graduated from the local high school. She worked for the W.H. Nichols Company, the Raytheon Company, the J.L. Thompson Company and had most recently been the manager of the Parmenter Home in Waltham for twenty-five years, retiring seven years ago.
She was a lifelong member of Christ Church on Main Street where she devoted her time, talent, treasure and energy to church committees, activities and members throughout her life. Muriel taught Sunday School and co-authored the history of Christ Church for their 200th anniversary. She adored her grandchildren and was always in the stands during their games. She was an avid reader and loved her Boston Red Sox.
The wife of the late William A. Nurse, Jr., she leaves her son, William David Nurse and his wife Patricia A., of Waltham; her grandchildren, Mackenzie L Giuffre and her husband, Adam, of Medford, Taylor A. Nurse of Danvers and David J.W. "DJ" Nurse of Waltham; her brother, Robert J. Cowie of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late John Cowie, Stella Demmons and Kenneth Cowie.
Family and friends will honor and remember Muriel's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, October 20th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Christ Church, 750 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
