Mrs. Myra J. (Cole) Taranto of Salem, New Hampshire, formerly of Waltham, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 in Salemhaven Nursing Home. She was 92.
Myra was born in Brighton, Vermont on December 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Jabez P. and Vivian L. (Ewens) Cole. She was raised and educated in Vermont and was a member of the women's basketball team at Brighton High School. After graduation she moved to Boston where she earned her secretarial degree from Burdett College. It was in Boston where she met Felix G. 'Phil' Taranto and the pair married on June 15, 1952 in Sacred Heart Church, Newton. They immediately settled in Waltham where they would raise their four children. As the children grew, the family decided to purchase a new camping trailer and many happy memories were made adventuring throughout Cape Cod and New Hampshire.
She enjoyed staying active in her community and was a member of the North Waltham Senior Citizens and was a loyal parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She was creative by nature and her hobbies included knitting, arts and crafts, baking and researching family genealogy. Before her retirement she had worked in the cafeteria of BLH Electronics and later as a check processor for BayBank, both in Waltham.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Phil, in 2011 and is survived by her children, Paul G. Taranto (Karen Bresnahan) of Sudbury, David M. Taranto of Brockton, Patricia J. Pzegeo (James) of Andover and Janet E. Robinson (Robert) of Hudson, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Jason Taranto (Kathleen) of Maysville, North Carolina, Stephen Taranto (Kelly) of Templeton, Rachel Duquette (Marc) of Franklin, Matt Goodale (Chelsea) of Haverhill and Kim Pzegeo of Hyannis; her great-grandchildren, Camron, Walden, Beatrix, Kierah, Kali, Roman, Arianna and Connor and also leaves many nieces, nephews and their families.
Myra was also the sister of the late Wayne Cole, Pearl O'Gorman and Irene Cole.
Family and friends will honor and remember Myra's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, October 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
