Waltham Mrs. Nancy A. (Avery) Maxwell, of Waltham, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 87. Nancy was born January 15, 1920 on a farm in Ledyard, New York, the seventh child of Frederick and Lula (Baldwin) Avery. She attended Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating she did visiting nursing work in Brooklyn and in Auburn, New York. In 1955, Nancy opened a nursing home in Moravia, New York and continued it until 1976. During the late 1960s and early 1970s she opened a couple of nursing home in the metropolitan area of New York City. She had worked as a nurse most of her life and enjoyed befriending the friendless wherever she went. In 1986 Nancy moved to Waltham and most recently lived at the Francis Cabot Lowell Mill where she enjoyed many activities there. Although she was legally blind she especially enjoyed painting and scrap booking her memories. She is survived by her daughters, Gail M. McClymonds and her husband, Jim, of Waltham and Marion E. Mimi Harris and her husband, Ron, of Groton, New York; her sisters, Edie Denman of Genoa, New York, Grace VanOrman of Ledyard, New York and Eva Sweazey of Lansing, New York; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Nancy was also a sister of the late William Bill Avery, John Jack Avery, Ben Avery, Marion Fenner, Dewit Dick Avery and Lula Fiorenzo. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 22nd in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham. Burial will take place in the family lot in Ledyard, New York in the Spring of 2008. Memorial donations may be made to Hope International Church, 21 Bruce Road, Waltham, MA 02453.
