Nancy M. (Horne) McDonald

August 8, 1933 — December 26, 2015

Waltham – Mrs. Nancy M. (Horne) McDonald, of Waltham died Saturday, December 26, 2015 in her home. She was 82.

Nancy was born in Waltham on August 8, 1933, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Fox) Horne, and grew up surrounded by family and what would become lifelong, close friends.

Early in her fifty-five year marriage to William "Bill" McDonald, the couple lived in Pompano Beach, Florida, before moving back to their home in Waltham. Whether it was being the hostess of a holiday party or entertaining friends at a summer backyard pool party, Nancy enjoyed the fun and fellowship that is part of sharing the joys of life. As her children became adults, she and Bill found time to travel to destinations from Hawaii to Europe.

During the past twenty five years, her social circle of friends expanded with homes at Cape Cod and in North Carolina, along with a winter condo in Hillsboro Beach, Florida, all of which could not replace her desire to move back to Waltham several years ago.

Her beloved husband, Bill, passed away in January of 2009.

Nancy leaves her children, Cynthia L. McDonald of Stockbridge, Julie A. Timmerman and her husband, Phillip, of Matthews, North Carolina and Jeffrey D. McDonald and his wife, Kelley, of Waltham; her grandchildren, Derik and Matthew Timmerman and Kaitlyn, Justin, Molly and Connor McDonald; her great grandchildren, Matthew, Nathaniel, Wesley, Tinsley and Tristan Timmerman; her brother and sister, Gerald A. Horne of Stow and Sandra L. Hatch of Hudson and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Joan Shapiro.

Family and friends will honor and remember Nancy's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, December 30th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning when her funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

Nancy requested that memorials be made to her daughter Cindy's home, Riverbrook Residence, 4 Ice Glen Road, P.O. Box 478, Stockbridge, MA 01262 - www.riverbrook.org - an exceptional home for exceptional women.
