Waltham – Mrs. Nancy J. (Sabato) Rando, of Waltham, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a brief illness. She was 88.
Nancy was born in Waltham on August 3, 1922, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Cincotta) Sabato. She was raised in Watertown and was a graduate of Watertown High School. She moved to Waltham in 1950.
Until her retirement she worked in the executive dining room at Arkwright Insurance Company in Waltham. She spent her life serving others, caring for her husband and raising five children. She volunteered at the Espousal Center in Waltham and had been a member of the Ladies Sodality at Our Lady’s Church in Waltham. She will be remembered by her family as being the consummate caregiver and a chef extraordinaire. Her meals were a work of art and became an experience for those gathered in her home. Her rare diversion from her daily duties came when the Red Sox were on.
She leaves her husband of more than sixty-two years, Joseph A. Rando, Sr.; her children, Nancy L. Rando and her partner, Ron Aten, of Severna Park, Maryland, Patricia A. Ryan and her husband, Edward, of Woburn, Joseph A. Rando, II of Hudson, Linda M. Frank and her husband, Michael, of Framingham and Cheri M. Rando of Waltham; her grandchildren, Michael J. Ryan, Shawna Clifford, Joseph A. Rando, III, Jessica M. Rando, Alexander and Emily Frank; her great-grandchildren, Julia, Matthew and Dylan Ryan; two sisters, Jean Clark of Meredith, New Hampshire and Marian McGovern of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was also the grandmother of the late Erika Rando and a sister of the late Bernard and Phyllis Sabato.
Family and friends will honor and remember Nancy’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, March 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
