Nancy M. (Flaherty) Seaman

Mrs. Nancy M. (Flaherty) Seaman, of West Newton, formerly of Waltham, died Saturday, September 2, 2023 in her home with Patty and her faithful companion Sadie by her side. She was 90.

Nancy was born in Waltham on January 1, 1933, a daughter of Irish immigrants, Thomas and Mary (Sullivan) Flaherty.  A graduate of Saint Charles High School in Waltham she remained a resident of the city, settling in at the Hovey House where she had numerous friends. Nancy moved to West Newton in 2015 to live with family.

She was the wife of the late Leonard Seaman.

Nancy worked for many years at May’s Bakery on Moody Street. She also worked at Daniel’s Bakery in Brighton for several years as the store manager where she later retired. Known as the “cookie lady” she delighted her family and friends by bringing sweet treats to all of their holiday and birthday gatherings.

When not in the kitchen, she enjoyed staying active by bowling and taking daily walks. She also loved going to the beach, especially to Hampton Beach in New Hampshire and to Cape Cod with her dear friend Ellen and family. Staying true to her Irish heritage, she enjoyed listening to Irish music, especially renditions performed by Bing Crosby. Nancy was able to take a trip to Ireland to see where her Mom lived and meet her extended family.

Nancy made friends wherever she went. She was loved by those who were blessed enough to have her in their lives.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Leonard, she is reunited in Heaven with her siblings, the late Thomas Flaherty, II and Marion (Flaherty) Ackerley.

She leaves her twin sister, Jean (Flaherty) Flanigan of Hudson and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Nancy's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, September 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
