Naomi Chick lived!
While blessed with only twenty-five years she assured her family and friends she lived a full life. She accomplished much, loved unconditionally…and made the world a better place.
In the comfort and presence of her parents surrounded by love Naomi Susan Chick died peacefully on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln. Her family will continue to talk to her in their minds, remember and love her with their hearts and in their souls know she now enjoys everlasting peace.
Born on November 7, 1992 in Iserlohn, Germany she was the second daughter of Graham Edward and Donna (Aslett) Chick. As a young child she immigrated to the United States settling in the Hudson Valley, New York area. She graduated with the class of 2010 of Rhinebeck High School. Always goal oriented and determined she attended Simmons College in Boston where she completed her Bachelor's degree in English minoring in Social Justice and Women and Gender Studies in only three years.
She made a difference!
Mother Teresa is quoted as saying, 'Not all of us can do great things but we can all do small things with great love!' Naomi did both and her professional career began with AIDS Action in Boston and later with ABCD in Boston. As interim work she served as an exam proctor for Pearson Publications and most recently Naomi was working as housing coordinator for HomeStart in Boston. She was a tireless advocate for the underprivileged, marginalized people in societies who needed a voice and she fought hard for equality.
She had wisdom beyond her years.
Diagnosed with osteosarcoma three years ago she fought as hard to eradicate her body of the dreaded disease as she did for the rights of the people with whom she worked and encountered in the various agencies. In December of 2017 after the disease recurred and more treatment ensued she talked with her parents about acceptance and shared her decision to suspend further medical treatment and embrace the time that remained with them and her many friends. It was a gift she gave herself and those who love her and Naomi did it with such strength…and grace…and wisdom. She assured them again…that in her twenty-five years she lived a good, productive and full life. Love wins!
She enjoyed all that life had to offer her.
When she arrived in Boston she was a NY Mets fan but quickly became an adopted daughter of the city she loved so very much and as a result embraced and supported all the New England sports teams. She played rugby and soccer during high school and later at Simmons in a league that competed in a consortium of Boston schools. She participated in one of the most difficult 'Tough Mudder's' in Maine with her dad as partner. She rode horseback on the beaches of the Dominican Republic, experienced the excitement of paragliding as well as parachuting, and even rode Codzilla in Boston Harbor with her Mum.
She exuded love and in return received the same.
Naomi leaves her parents, Graham and Donna; her sister, Lauren Ann Chambers and her husband, Donnie; many aunts and uncles including Janet Pledger and her husband, Richard; her grandfather Donald Charles Aslett; cousins, co-workers and a host of friends and her mark on them is forever etched in their hearts. Awaiting her arrival in heaven was her much loved grandmother, Margaret Jean Ann Aslett.
