Edgartown – Mrs. Natalie (Correia) Francis, of Edgartown, died Friday, April 1, 2011 as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Savannah, Georgia. She was 74.
Natalie was born in East Boston on December 25, 1936, a daughter of the late Antonio Correia, Jr. and Delfina (Luciano) Correia. Both of her parents were born in Madiera, Portugal and later became American citizens. She was raised in East Boston with a close family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Natalie’s family moved to Allston when she was a teenager and she lived there until she married her husband John Francis and later moved to Waltham.
Natalie and her husband John lived in Waltham for 35 years while enjoying summers on Martha’s Vineyard. They moved to Edgartown twelve years ago and spent winters in Sanibel, Florida. Natalie was a devoted grandmother, mother and wife. Her interests included spending time at the beach, entertaining, cooking and enjoying the company of family and friends.
Natalie attended Katherine Gibbs School and Bentley College and worked for many years for the Honeywell Corporation in Waltham. She recently worked for The Gift Shop in Edgartown.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Francis, Jr., her sons, Stephen J. Francis and his wife, Carol Adiletto-Francis, of Wakefield, Paul A. Francis and his wife, Laura Francis, of Burleson, Texas, and John M. Francis of Pepperell; her grandchildren, Paul Francis, Allison Francis, John Adiletto, Emily Francis, John Francis, Claire Francis and Kathryn Francis; her sister Eugenia Orfao of Falmouth and many cousins.
Natalie was also the mother-in-law of the late Kimberly Francis.
Family and friends will honor and remember Natalie’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, May 11th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main St., Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
