Waltham Mr. Nic Meliones, of Waltham, died Wednesday August 9, 2006 in his home. He was 78. Born in Boston, a son of the late Costas and Angela (Bragnis) Meliones, he had lived in Waltham for more than fifty years. Until his retirement, Nic worked for over thirty years as an engineer for R.C.A. in Burlington. Long active in the community, he was a past president of the Waltham Council of Neighborhood Associations. Nic was an avid runner who ran in more than fifty marathons and had been the founder of the RCA Nooners Running Club. He belonged to the American Martial Arts Association where he achieved his black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do and was honored as the male Black Belt of the Year in 2004. During World War II, Nic served with the United States Navy. Nic leaves his wife, Janet C. (Melios) Meliones; his children, Keith C. Meliones, and his wife, Anna, of Wayland, Karen M. Meliones and her spouse, Tina Cook, of Waltham, Cheryl A. Meliones, Jon N. Meliones and his wife, Terri, all of Durham, North Carolina, and Kenneth J. Meliones of Waltham; nine grandchildren, his nephew, George Petrakes of Brighton; and his niece, Janet P. Houghton of Sterling. He was also the brother of the late Portia Petrakes. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Monday, August 21st, from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Marys Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 20th, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
