Lexington – Mr. Nicholas C. Ciccone, Sr., of Lexington, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 95.
Nick was born in Newton, a son of the late Cosmo and Vincenzezina (Molino) Ciccone, and was a 1934 graduate of Newton High School. After that he worked in the family grocery store, Damiano's Market, in Newton Centre.
He was also a talented ballplayer who played for the Boston Red Sox affiliate in Lynchburg, Virginia in the 1930's. When World War II came Nick signed up with the United States Army and served in Europe as a medic. After the war he came home to the family business but later went to work for the Pepsi Cola Company. He worked for Pepsi until he retired as an area manager several years ago.
In his younger days, in addition to playing ball, he was a golfer and talented tennis player. His love of sports followed him into old age. The Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins were always welcome companions in his home.
The husband of the late Eugenia F. 'Jean' (Caira) Ciccone, he leaves his children, Rev. Nicholas C. Ciccone, Jr. and his wife, Katherine, of Waltham, Richard A. Ciccone and his wife, Hope, of Peru, Maine and Waltham Fire Chief Paul J. Ciccone and his wife, Lany, of Lexington; his grandchildren, Christopher Ciccone, Tricia Charles, Nicole Ciccone-Kendall, Ben Ciccone, Amber Wallace, Brian, Jeffrey, Kevin and Danielle Ciccone and Cassie, Kristen and Stephanie Duke; his great-grandchildren, Richie Dupree, Tyler Ewell, Courtney Ciccone, Avery and Miles Kendall and Natalie and Charlotte Charles; three sisters, Gilda Pallotta and Martha Dunbar both of Milford and Valia Leone of Newton and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was also a brother of the late Anthony Ciccone, Regina Hurd, Joanne Fettig, Lydia Ciccone, Eleanor Russell and Mary Androski.
Family and friends will honor and remember Nicholas' life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, July 16th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning when his funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
