Waltham – Mrs. Norma M. (Slamin) Hayden, of Waltham, died Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 94.
Norma was born in Waltham on August 30, 1927, a daughter of the late Leo and Amanda (Sevigny) Slamin. She was raised in Watertown and was a graduate of Watertown High School.
Following her 1952 marriage to Silas B. Hayden the couple moved to Waltham where they became lifelong residents.
Norma worked until she was 80 as a sales clerk at Party Needs in Waltham. She kept up with her younger co-workers flawlessly and enjoyed the company and companionship that her job afforded. Before that she'd held the same position at Grover Cronin's on Moody Street.
At home she kept busy reading and keeping her home and garden in tip-top shape.
In addition to her husband, Silas, and her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Slamin.
She leaves her children, Jean A. Graceffa (Thomas) of Dennis, Nancy J. Cuerdon (Edward) of Derry, New Hampshire and Mark J. Hayden (Kimberly) of Waltham; her grandchildren, Matthew Graceffa (Rachel), Julie Graceffa, Ryan Cuerdon (Lizzie), Nicole Badger (Sean), Daniel Hayden and Allyson Hayden; her great-grandson, Jaxson Graceffa; her brother and sister, Leo Slamin, Jr. of Watertown and Janet Cross of Marlboro and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Norma's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, February 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.
