Waltham – Mrs. Norma A. (Read) Plamondon died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Lexington Health Care Center. She was 81. A daughter of the late Margaret (Megginson) and Thomas Read, Norma was born in Waltham, where she lived all her life.
A graduate of Waltham High School and Boston University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art, Norma worked as an artist in advertising and for a time also operated her own business, The Norma Gallery, in Sandwich. Later she worked as a legal secretary for Delaney & Delaney in Waltham for many years. In her spare time, she utilized her extensive knowledge of Massachusetts history by volunteering as a docent/tour guide at the Boston State House, an activity that she, and the tourists she led, thoroughly enjoyed.
She also loved spending summers at her beautiful home on Sagamore Beach. One of her favorite pastimes on the Cape was eating her lunch on the banks of the Cape Cod Canal, watching all the boats and ships come and go.
Norma travelled extensively throughout Europe and the Caribbean; and she and her husband, Lionel, honeymooned in Paris, one of her favorite cities. A devoted fan of the novels of the Bronte sisters, Norma was a member of The Bronte Society and visited London annually for several years to attend Bronte Society meetings.
A life-long animal lover, Norma was never without a pet. Over the years she shared her home with a number of happy dogs and cats.
Norma was the wife of the late Lionel A. Plamondon.
She is survived by her cousins Marion Sullivan of Westhampton, New York, Helen Maher of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and William McCann of Plymouth and was a lifelong friend of Rose Mula of Methuen.
Family and friends will honor and remember Norma’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown.
