Waltham – Norman Cormier was a skilled carpenter and craftsman. He always knew to measure twice and cut once. His home in Waltham is an example of his craftsmanship and passion for his work and it's where he died peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was 77.
Norman was born in Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada on June 19, 1941, the son of the late Clovis and Emma (Melanson) Cormier. He married Fernande M. Cormier on September 2, 1961 in Saint Pierre Church in New Brunswick. They immigrated to the United States in 1959 making Waltham their home. Like so many others who came from their native Canada to the area they brought their strong French culture to Waltham and maintained many old and formed new friendships through the French American Club. Canada remained a part of their lives and trips home to Memramcook to their home afforded him time to ride his four wheelers and enjoy everything the outdoors has to offer. He was also close with cousins and friends who played in a blue grass band and he and Fern would follow them when home in Canada to their festivals and concerts.
Norman worked forty years as a finish carpenter for Delapa Construction in Norwood before retiring in 2016.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Fern M. Cormier; their daughters, Suzanne M. Hamlin of Northborough and Norma M. LeBlanc of Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada; his grandchildren, Caroline, Patrick, Aaron and Brandon; his great-grandchildren, Savannah and Jaxon; his cousin with whom he was raised, Roberta Breau of Waltham; his brothers and sister-in-law's, Ulysse Cormier (Rose) of Cocagne, New Brunswick, Canada, Leonard Cormier (Norma) of Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada and Jeannine Hebert (Late Charles) of Ontario, Canada and also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
He was also the brother of the late baby Norman Cormier.
Family and friends will honor and remember Norman's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, September 21st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning when his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham.
