Mr. Norman E. Kenney, of Waltham and Onset, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023 in Care One Nursing Home in Concord. He was 88.
Norman Erle Kenney was born on April 14, 1935 in Waltham a son of the late Norman and Muriel (Parlee) Kenney. He graduated from Newton Trade High School. Norm was the youngest to achieve his license as a Master electrician. He married Patricia Anne MacDonald on July 29, 1956 and after 57 years of marriage Patricia died on February 27, 2013.
A self-employed electrician he owned and operated N.E. Kenney & Co. Inc. from 1957 until enjoying retirement and turning the business to his son, Norman Jr. in 2015.
Norman was an active and lifelong member of the Watertown Yacht Club and served as its past Commodore and club historian. For years Norm was organized and prepared all the fixing for the club’s annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner. He was a member of Pequosette Lodge A.F. & A.M. and was an active member of the Shriners.
He loved the game of golf and having a home in Onset afforded him many rounds as a member of the Little Harbor Country Club at which he achieved a hole-in-one. A lover of the outdoors, Norman also enjoyed gardening, boating and fishing. He had the gift of gab and loved hosting weekend breakfasts. A jack of all trades he was a talented carpenter and always had a task at hand but willing to help both family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Pat he is predeceased by their daughter, Judy Kenney and his brothers, Lloyd and George Kenney.
He leaves his children, Norman E. Kenney Jr. (Debbie) of Newton and Maureen Kenney of Waltham; his grandchildren, Norman Kenney III, Kristin Kenney Martin and R.J. Kenney; his great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Ellie Martin; also survived by nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Norman's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, May 11th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Friday morning where his funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Care One at Concord, Memory Unit, 57 Old Rd to 9 Acre Corner, Concord, MA 01742.
