Waltham – Mrs. Obeline E. (Bourgeois) Sparrow, of Waltham, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 93.
Obeline was born in Memramcook, New Brunswick on September 11, 1917, a daughter of the late Thaddee and Jeanne (Bourgeois) Bourgeois, and had been a Waltham resident since 1936. She worked for a few years at the Waltham Watch Factory before going to work as a merchandise marker for Grover Cronin’s Department Store for many years until her retirement. In her spare time she enjoyed baking and knitting mittens and blankets for various family members.
She leaves her children, Douglas C. Sparrow and his wife, Virginia, of Waltham, Gary E. Sparrow and his wife, Patricia, of Framingham and Wayne A. Sparrow and his wife, Sandra, of Lexington; three brothers, Camaille Bourgeois of Memramcook, New Brunswick, Edgar Bourgeois of Dieppe, New Brunswick, Allain Bourgeois of Flint, Michigan; two sisters, Olive Abela of Ontario, Canada and Laura Perry of Nevada; her sister-in-law, Lorrette Bourgeois of Waltham; her close friend, Dolores P. Moore of Waltham; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the wife of the late Alexander D. Sparrow and sister of the late Gerard, Alderic, Dorice, and Emile Bourgeois, Marie Ouellette and Louise Bowles.
Family and friends will honor and remember Obeline’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Friday, September 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church 51 Hall Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
